The Antares System is a trinary star system discovered in 2159 CE / 0 A.L. by the colonists of the Earhart Colonization Program. The Antares System is named after the Old Antares System. Currently, it is the capital system of the Antares Confederacy.[1] As of 210 A.L. there are eleven nations spread over six planets in the Antares System.[1]

Discovery, Exploration and Colonization[]

Earhart Colonization Program[]

On the 1st of March 2159 CE, 6 million colonists departed Earth's orbit as part of the Earhart Colonization Program. These colonists were intended to become the second wave of settlers in the newly sufficient Antares Colonies. The colonization flotilla entered the artificial wormhole without incident. However, when the scheduled check-ins were missed and 30 months passed with no sign of the flotilla, Earth declared the flotilla lost, mourning the largest loss of life in the modern era.[2]

However, the Earhart Flotilla had not been destroyed in the transition but had instead arrived in an unknown star system. This system, while unsurveyed, contained several worlds that appeared capable of supporting human life. In honour and memory of their original destination, the colonists of the Earhart Flotilla named the system Antares.[3]

First Colonization Campaigns[]

Without the means to sustain their population in a single settlement, and fearful of alien diseases, natural disasters or other calamities the flotilla spread itself across 19 sites in the Antares system, in the hopes that some, if not all, would survive.[4] The flotilla colonized Dakarai, Ariane, Lindiwe, Hai, Alhaji, Vinh and Ziva.[5] Independent records from multiple republics make mention of a colony on Nakiska, but both the Antares Confederacy and the Antares Assembly before it have dismissed such records as mere conjecture.[6]

Astrography[]

The Antares System is a trinary system consisting of the main sequence stars Abeni, Dejen and Nakato.

Abeni[]

Abeni is the primary sun of the Antares System. It appears to be an F-class star, substantially hotter, brighter, and more massive than the Sun and a potent source of ultraviolet radiation.[7] It is home to the great gas giant Bao, the largest planet in the system, and the Diego Asteroid Belt. While many objects are in some kind of orbit, the eight largest celestial bodies are:

Madalitso[]

Madalitso is the celestial body orbiting closest to Abeni. It is a barren, rocky planet without an atmosphere.

Aberash[]

Aberash orbits near Abeni, combined with a highly active tectonic system leaves the world covered in lakes of semi-liquid lava.

Fatsani[]

Fatsani is the largest moon of Aberash, and is comperable to the moon of Old earth in size and lack of atmosphere.

Hai[]

Orbiting on the inner edge of the habitable zone of Abeni, Hai is covered in a vast ocean - dotted with a collection of smaller islands, which have been largely occupied by the The Federation of Rhumdara - and a single massive continent housing The Republic of Chengatai. The planet is known for its vast storms.

Dalitso[]

The largest moon of Hai, Dalitso is a round and rocky-grey moon roughly a third of the size of Hai proper

Ariane[]

The world of Ariane orbits near center in the Habitable zone of Abeni, and has a stable climate and geography similar to that of Old Earth. The original colonists sent to Ariane perished due to abnormal cancers caused by a weak magnetic field, and starvation set about by the incompatability of Old Earth crops with the existing idylic ecosystem.

Bao[]

The gas giant Bao is the third largest celestial body in the Abeni subsystem, and is placed on the cooler side of the star's habitable zone.

Lindiwe[]

Lindiwe is the most notable moon of Bao, the location of The Republic of Alfjari-Vet, the The Republic of Maltuan, and the The Republic of Mandakir. WIthin the Republic of Alfjari-Vet is the city of Sagallo, the capital of the Antares Confederacy. With several modest continents similar to those of Earth, it has a climate which is fairly similar.

Nakiska[]

Nakiska is the sixth planet orbiting Abeni, a cold but not entirely inhospitable world of great mountain chains and vast alien forests. Independent records from many republics suggest that it was one of the planets colonized during the First Colonization Campaigns, but there are no humans on the planet today. Nakiska has one large, habitable moon — Kimberley. Nakiska and Kimberley are both currently under the Nakiska Exclusion Zone.

Masozi[]

Masozi is the seventh planet orbiting Abeni. It has no major moons.

Kanika[]

Kanika is the eighth planet orbiting Abeni. It has no major moons.

Kito[]

Kito is the ninth planet orbiting Abeni. It has no major moons, but is orbited by several Confederate helium mining stations.[8]

Diego Asteroid Belt[]

The Diego Asteroid Belt in distant orbit of Abeni is the largest collection of asteroids and other debris in the entire Antares system. The primary headquarters of the Antares Pioneer Corps, known as "The Lighthouse" is located deep within the belt.[9] A number of jobs, offered by United Mining, were available as General Intendant of Station Operations on mining stations across the belt.[8][10]

Nakato[]

Nakato is one of the three stars of the Antares System. It appears to be a K-type star, smaller and cooler than Abeni but likely to live much longer.[11] Nakato is orbited by five planets:

Thanh[]

Thanh is the first planet orbiting Nakato. It has one major moon — Kane.

Adaeze[]

Adaeze is the second planet orbiting Nakato. It has no major moons.

Dakarai[]

Dakarai is the third planet orbiting Nakato. Nakato was one of the planets colonized during the First Colonization Campaigns. The Federation of Jut Fareed and the Republic of Retiva are based on Dakarai. As of 210 A.L. the population of Dakarai is 633,794,079, making it the most populated planet in the Antares System.

Jatau[]

Jatau is the fourth planet orbiting Nakato. It has one major moon - Mbalenhle.

Morana[]

Morana is the fifth planet orbiting Nakato. It has no major moons.

Dejen[]

Dejen is one of the three stars of the Antares System. It appears to be an M-type star or "red dwarf", small and dim even in comparison to Nakato but vastly longer lived.[12] Dejen is orbited by seven planets:

Njeri[]

Nejeri is the first planet orbiting Dejen. It has no major moons.

Vinh[]

Vinh is the second planet orbiting Dejen. It has one major moon - Ziva. Vinh and Ziva were both colonized during the First Colonization Campaigns. The Commonwealth of Embasora is based on Vinh. In 210 A.L. the population of Vinh is 6,281,731, making it the 6th most populated world in the Antares System. The Sabmadi Republic and the Tehnali Republic are based on Vinh's moon, Ziva. In 210 A.L. the population of Ziva is 24,334,262, making it the 5th most populated world in the system.

Alhaji[]

Alhaji is the third planet orbiting Dejen. Alhaji was one of the planets colonized during the First Colonization Campaigns. The Union of Thanh-Jenal is based on Alhaji. As of 210 A.L. the population of Dejen is 83,726,918, making it the 4th most populated world in the Antares System. Alhaji has no major moon.

Chiemeka[]

Chiemeka is the fourth planet orbiting Dejen. It has no major moons.

Mandla[]

Mandla is the fifth planet orbiting Dejen. It has no major moons.

Konjit[]

Konjit is the sixth planet orbiting Dejen. It has no major moons.

Faraji[]

Faraji is the seventh planet orbiting Dejen. It has no major moons.
